Excellent food, good atmosphere, and away from the crowds and noise of Gulf Shores. Recommend if you want to relax, eat, and hear each other at dinner.

At first it's confusing as to which restaurant you should check into as there are two listings at the same address for this restaurant, but who cares. One listing has 5 stars and the other has 4 stars, and I can honestly say that those ratings are pretty accurate. I didn't have very big expectations, given an Asian restaurant location where most other asian restaurants are american Asian foods. Looking at the menu I thought, maybe it's fusion, but it clearly lists dishes from different regions, primarily China, Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia. When we first walked in around 5pm, it was dead and I could see servers, waitresses, and cooks with heads down (facing away from the entrance), either they were deeply involved with their mobiles or they were sleeping. It was both. After waiting for a few minutes and making some sounds I eventually approached the closest person and announced our presence. They were all startled, which I found pretty hilarious, only because I like startling people. The waiters and waitresses were very embarrassed and the cooks slowly disappeared into the back. I should note that after we were seated we saw another cook being woken up in the back where he was sleeping in a booth. I guess they had finished prep early and we were early for a weekday dinner. Now to the food and service. Food was great! The chicken coconut soup (aka Tom Gha) was creamier than usual but was pretty spot on, and they gave a good portion for the price. The chicken panang curry was also very good despite the not usual vegetables that you would put in it, like baby corn, broccoli, water chest nuts. I would like to say that the Keffir lime in the soup and curry was cooked nicely so that they were easy to chew and consume. The dragon roll was slightly disappointing. Although it acted well as a refreshing palate cooler to the soup and curry, the roll was small for the price. I thought it was going to be one of the thicker rolls. Also, there was like no eel in it, maybe a punch in each piece, such that you couldn't taste the eel. You may ask me then, why 5 stars? Well they also only gave us one pair of chopsticks (much laughing ensued as it's an ongoing joke that I am usually the only person offered chopsticks because I'm Asian), later when they saw I was sharing the chopsticks they came by and gave us another pair. Also, I am fighting a cold and the waitress heard me sneezing and she came by and gave me a stack of tissues. They service was actually very friendly and often came by to ask us how everything was and to top our drinks. The food was also a pleasant surprise and very decently/comparably priced. We are definitely coming back during our stay out here to test their other dishes.

Never disappoints. Great sushi, love the spicy santa! Great service, lovely atmosphere and fast service. My son had the Sesame shrimp, large serving of huge shrimp. Very tasty.

Not as good as we remember all the other times we came. Would have given it a 4 until now. Prices were a little high. All we had was sushi for 2 adults & 3 kids under 8 and house fried rice. Bill was $115... Wow! Should have wowed me and I wouldn't have said a word about price. Everyone's favorite roll was the American Dream and Spicy Santa Roll. House fried rice was bland and shrimp in it was undercooked. Searching for new favorite sushi place in Gulf Shores area as of now!

This review is just for sushi -and sushi will be why I return to try the rest of their menu. The restaurant is beautiful and huge. I wasnt expecting it to be so polished so that was a nice surprise. My BF and I were the only people in there (about 2PM on a Friday) which caused him to be concerned about how good the food would be. There was no need to be concerned. Our host/server was great about walking us through the sushi menu and the specials of the day. She did a really great job of making suggestions and was overall very patient with us. I went with the lunch special 3 rolls for $12 and my boyfriend did a buy one, get one with a specialty roll and a regular roll. My order came with a miso soup and house salad. However, the server offered to bring out two soups or two salads so my BF and I could share everything. We ended up going with one wonton soup and a hot and sour soup. They were so yummy, I didn't even know I wanted soup until they came out and they almost stole away my sushi cravings. The fish used in the sushi was perfect -you could feel it melt in your mouth. The rolls were well-portioned and we left quite full after sharing 1 speciality and 4 regular rolls. My only "complaint" is that my green tea could have been hotter (it was lukewarm).

While traveling through Alabama, we stopped for take-out. While the boyfriend visited a pizza place next-door (which he was also impressed by), I ordered a three-sushi-roll lunch special (salmon avocado and tuna avocado). I expected small pieces and relatively low quality, because in my experience, inexpensive Asian fusion restaurants have generally been decent at all of their menu items but not specialized enough to be great at any. Included with my meal were two side items, so I chose miso soup and egg drop soup. My meal was neatly packaged and ready to go in less than 10 minutes (another convenience I expected would influence the quality of the food). When I unpacked the bag, I found extensive supplies (plenty of napkins and two of: forks, spoons, chopsticks, low-sodium soy sauce, empty dipping cups, ginger, Wasabi), a complimentary cucumber salad, and 18 large pieces of well-rolled sushi. I was shocked by the freshness, excellent flavors, and overall incredible quality of the food itself. I travel often and eat LOTS of sushi. I was thrilled by everything and shocked by the great portions. My only critique would be the quality of the seaweed used in the rolls, as it was slightly chewy. I easily made what I thought would be a light meal into two terrifically filling/satisfying meals. Service was fantastic. "Rena" was efficient, knowledgeable, and wonderfully helpful. The best/most shocking part? The entire experience was priced at $12!!!

The food, service and decor was wonderful. We went for lunch and it was 2 for 1 wine which we had. He then brought out their complimentary home made cucumber salad. It was delish. The cucumbers were crunchy with cilantro, garlic and other spices. For lunch we ordered the Panang Curry with tofu and a level 3 spice. It came with soup and we chose the hot and sour. It was very flavorful with lots of veges and was piping hot. Our entree came out on a beautiful white divided tray which included two spring rolls with duck sauce. We ate it all up. The service was outstanding and our waiter checked in on us regularly. Since we only had one glass of wine apiece, he only charged us for one. We would go back in a heart beat. Don't pass this up.

I am sorry but I have eaten here twice. The first time was mediocre. Sushi was tasteless and miso soup watery and also no real flavor. I thought I would try again earlier this week. It was horrible! Sushi rolls were so tough I ended up using my napkin and did not even finish. I don't know how in the world this restaurant has received the positive reviews it has. I hope this honest review from a loyal sushi lover will help someone.

Wonderful menu with reasonable prices. Steamed dumplings were perfect. Great deals on sushi; buy one get one roll. I had the seafood curry hot pot -- it stayed temp hot for a long time . The decor is lovely but no worries -- casual dress is fine.

Stopped for a late lunch while shopping at outlet mall. We had the lettuce wraps and crab Rangoon for an appetizer, then sushi and sesame chicken. Food was good, restaurant was very nice. Staff attentive. Worth stopping!

This place has the BEST SUSHI I've ever had. I tried their Tiger Roll (which was not on the menu). It was the Sushi Chef's own experimental creation. My wife tried the Shrimp Pad Thai. And it was really good too. It tasted different from any Pad Thai we had before. Good different. But we're definitely going back here. The environment is awesome. The service is very friendly with great servers. And the FOOD IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! Free Wi-Fi too! We had dinner here 2 nights back-to-back!

We were really excited to try this place based on the five star reviews. What a disappointment. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. Interior is just like any other sushi restaurant - nothing special. Super uncomfortable chairs. The place was almost empty on a Friday night. Not a good sign for a busy coastal city. Service was good enough but the food was mediocre. We ordered sushi rolls and nothing really stood out. Sashimi was ok but the octopus was way too tough.

Ok people. I have been coming to Gulf Shores for 12 years and wanted to find Asian cuisine. This place is it! Fresh sushi, beautiful decor, great happy hour and attentive service. Try it!

The sushi was a work of art that hit all palates of the tongue. Loved the American Dream and Spicy Santa. Miso soup was average.

Pan Asia! This is great, if you can't decide what type of Asian you want, there is Aji Sai. I had the coconut chicken soup, a dragon roll (eel), and panang curry. I was happy with everything. First, the soup portion was large for the price. The panang curry had a wonderful variety of vegetables in it and had a good flavor. The dragon roll was very tasty (although they were skimpy on the eel). Overall, the price for sushi is much better than prices at other close by restaurants. My wife noticed they were listening to Chinese music. Based on that and the Panang chicken, I am going to bet that their Chinese dishes are probably excellent. I am planning on eating Chinese dishes for my next visit.

  • Micah M.

Pros: Friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices (mostly). The fried rice was particularly delicious. Cons: 1. Two-for-one sushi is advertised, but the portions are so small it could probably be considered one for one sushi. 2. Most of the food seemed relatively bland and dry. Not sure if it was just that night or this is a normal thing.

  • Jason B.

Great food. Very clean even menus and bathrooms. Yellow curry with chicken was great. Rolls very good. Some rolls were cut funny. Looked like a few very large bites but on my last bite I decided to cut it in half then realized it already was. Weird but very good.

Great food, large servings, pleasant staff, good prices, ample seating, multiple Asian regional foods; ate here repeatedly while on vacation, voted favorite restaurant by our large family (ate out often while in this area on vacation).

There aren't many Chinese restaurants near Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, and we happened to find this place in the Publix supermarket shopping center. We were surprised how large and nice it was on the inside, because it didn't look like much from outside. We had appetizers, chicken and steak teriyaki sushi. Everything had was good, and the prices were fair. Worth the stop if you're in the mood for sushi or chinese

  • Zach B.

We got our food to go. Good price for the amount of food we got, especially considering they were kind enough to throw in some wontons and marinated cucumbers free gratis. Excellent taste. Quick and polite service. I would happily return and recommend to others as well.

To find a good Japanese Sushi restaurant in the Gulf Beach, Orange Beach and Perdido area I thought was impossible, thankfully Aji Sal proved me wrong. Aji Sal, when translated means Taste Good, I can't imagine an American restaurant naming it's self like that, because you know it would be a flop, with bad food, bad service. Well the people at Aji Sal, no nothing of that, there service is stellar, and there sushi is great, really great. The fish is fresh, and are good proportional sizes. They have a variety of interesting sounding rolls, that go way beyond the ubiquitous California Roll that started the crazy thirty years ago in this country. The sushi chef has loads of personality as do the the rest of the wait staff. I can't wait to go back, this is no lower Alabama, upper Florida sushi restaurant, this place is actually good!

Driving back from Gulf Shores, stopped at the Foley outlets. Great find! Aji Sai is not your chain restaurant. Legit oriental cuisine. The Tempura Udon was excellent. Our server Wendy had a language "issue", and we were having trouble communicating with her the type of noodles one of us wanted, so she went to the kitchen and brought us samples to choose from. The Pad Thai noodle was good, and the sushi better. The prices very reasonable, but the best thing was the service.

  • Jessica W.

We were visiting the area and wanted some sushi and picked Aji Sai based on the other Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. We had a variety of sushi and sashimi and enjoyed all of it. We especially liked the spicy tuna roll (one of the better ones that I've had) and the dragon roll. This definitely ranks up with some of the best sushi I've had in the South. Service was excellent, and even my two-year-old enjoyed it. There isn't a kids' menu per se, but they brought her some fried rice and a special Japanese soda that she loved. We'll definitely come back the next time we're in town.

I hate it when I look up a restaurant on Yelp and all the reviews are stellar and then when I go eat there it's less stellar. Maybe it was an off day? Everything I ordered was tasteless and terrible.

Not so good. Pretty gross actually. Jalapeños on jalepeño hamachi were cut way too big and overpowering. Fish quality wasn't the best by any means. Most places that use crab stick or fake krab call it something that makes you know it's imitation crab. This place calls it crab like its real crab. They also seem to rely on mayonnaise to disguise the lack of fish quality. We asked for our 2 rolls with creamy sauce and mayo on the side and everything came coated in cream sauce and tons of mayo. Gross. So gross. Tried to scrape it off and eat it, but it just made us feel sick. Couldn't do it. Sent it back. Luckily I'm only in town for the wknd b/c gulf shores def lacks good sushi. Mayo slathered on sushi is just gross and wrong. Sushi should be fresh and about fish quality. Definitely not mayo. I just have to remember... This is gulf shores. Not the place for high food expectations. Xtra star for staff trying to be nice.

I am surprised how much I can write about this place, as I just stopped in for a sushi snack and had two rolls... The sushi here is a good value for the price (coming from someone who despises the sushi-like product sold at Publix and those who eat it). The ambience is nice, but perhaps designed to be a price point below the other sushi/tappenyaki restaurant nearby. That is not intended to be a bad thing, as that is exactly what brought us there instead of the more expensive place. There wasn't much innovative or unique on the sushi menu, as can be expected from anywhere on the Redneck Riviera, but my choices were good enough to come back for. I noticed they also had Chinese and Thai choices on the menu, which again, is perfectly fitting for the area. After all, your average Alabama hillbilly probably thinks that all asians look the same, and couldn't find the pacific ocean on a globe. Having said all that, the snowbird sitting near me ordered the General Tso's chicken, and it looked and smelled delicious. The fried crisps they bring out when you sit down seem out of place when you are seated next to the sushi bar, but I'm sure the obese customers love them. I liked my sushi, it was a good value, i'll go back again.

Found this gem while visiting on spring break. Hands down the best sushi I have ever had. It was so good that our group went back two nights in a row. We also had the same waiter both nights, and he was beyond exceptional. I have been trying since that trip to find sushi that matches the quality and variety, but have failed so far. Would highly recommend! I can't remember everything we tried, but we got the angry dragon roll both times and it was excellent. I tried the crab rangoon as well. It was made with real crab and was much better than your typical CR appetizer.

The sushi is good, not great but good. The ambiance is cool and different than most "beach" places you will eat. We had the Love Boat" sushi platter and it was good. The sushi was fresh, although some if the sashimi was still a little frozen when served. Overall not the best sushi I have had, but good for your vacation sushi fix. I would give it 3.5 stars...,4 would be great and 5 days top 1%, and I eat a lot of sushi!

This food is shut-the-front-door good. As a vegetarian on vacation in the land of "seafood" and "home cookin," I find it difficult to see anything I'm interested in. Wow what a refreshing experience this was! A little bit about the ambiance. It was you typical, borderline cheaply done decor, clearly new. Perfectly pleasant and very clean, so I was happy. Now to the food. My husband and I ordered rolls and sake. Avocado roll, AAC Roll, and the Sweet Potato Tempura roll. I know we did not go out on a limb here and most of these things are pretty average and common. But wow, the execution was so good! We are foodies and have had a lot of yummy rolls over the US, but these were particularly enjoyable. We ended up ordering seconds! The Sweet Potato Tempura Roll was to die for, you MUST try it! Overall, I found the experience to be very pleasant, and the prices about average and very tolerable. Total for 6 rolls and a bottle of sake, our bill came out to about $35. Thank goodness for this diamond in the rough!

I totally agree with the other reviews. We found the prices a good value for what we normally pay for sushi. The spicy salmon was good as was the Spicey girl roll. Their yellowtail was very good too. We totally recommend this place for sushi fans.

O no! I do not know what these people are eating but there is no way this restaurant has the capacity to serve anything above mediocre. My mom and I felt like sushi so we hit up this place. We each started with a salmon sashimi and a shrimp tempura roll, ordered vegetarian lettuce rolls, and a veggie yakisoba. First the free "dip" and chips they serve is just gross. It looks like spicy tuna but its more like whipped terribleness. The chips are just dripping in grease. No thank you. The shrimp tempura roll tasted like air - seriously season your rice! The size of the sashimi assaulted my plate. Sashimi should be thinly slice, not a huge chunk. Nonetheless, it was tasteless. Where are you buying your fish from? It is AWFUL. The lettuce wraps were also tasteless - and took the same amount of time to come out as our entree. The real bomb of the night was the Yakisoba. When food is served to you and it looks like someone ate it an hour ago and regurgitated it back up onto your plate, you know it is going to be bad. The noodles were so soggy they looked like cream of wheat mush and the sauce had that dry skin on it. I couldn't keep it in my mouth longer enough to taste it that is how fowl the texture was. I'm gagging just thinking about it. The service was so poor. We were rushed to order - even though the restaurant was empty. When we tried to complain we were ignored. We didn't even get an I am sorry or what can I do to make this better for you. They did take off the yakisoba and the lettuce wraps off the bill - only after I said I would not pay for food I couldn't swallow. This place literally gets one star because the beer was cold. Just awful - save your money and go elsewhere.

Great atmosphere, good service, but I found the food rather average. If I order something that is described as Szechwan, I expect more than bland, but bland is what was served. I don't plan to return.

My wife and I have frequented Aji Sai since their beginning. Our first experiences there were simply outstanding. However, we have noticed a gradual decrease in the quality of their food the past two years. Regardless, we continued to go because their food was still good; just not quite as good as it used to be. With that being said, we've had a recent experience with them that was very disappointing. We called to place an order for pick up, and a lady answers the phone and promptly states that "they are too busy for phone calls." So I check and make sure that this is Aji Sai, and inform her that I just want to place an order to be picked up and she repeats that "they are too busy for phone calls" and proceeds to hang up the phone. Mind you that their carry-out is something that they advertise proudly in mail outs. I would have at least expected to be put on hold. I was very disappointed to say the least.

I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars because, for a vegetarian, it is head and shoulders above every other restaurant I've tried within 50 miles. However, it is not only suited to vegetarians, and, as above reviewers have mentioned, the prices are right and the pan-Asian menu offers more choices than your average sushi/teppanyaki restaurant in the area. The tempura udon was unbelievably delicious, and the portion was absolutely huge. They made a vegetarian broth for my husband that was just as rich and perfectly flavored as any udon I've tried, even in Japan. The "thai curry" is kind of a mix between a red and yellow curry in appearance and flavor, but it was spicy, and had a complex flavor, with fresh vegetables and succulent blocks of tofu. The service was great, and the decor is beautiful. They even had a great cold, unfiltered sake on the menu. This was truly a pleasant surprise, and we will return for sure.

I rate this restaurant with 4 stars because I was thoroughly impressed with the service, and quality of sushi. It was definetely a nice change to the other restaurants in Gulf Shores. I found most of the restaurants there mainly served food that was fried. I would definetely come back again!

I tend to rely on Yelp to help me out at different town but we are really happy we stop here. This place was fabulous !! The seaweed salad was fresh.. The crab salad was soft and crunchy at the same time, highly recommend this one. And of course the specialty rolls were generous, warm, fresh and melt in your mouth kinda thing. Uhhhh This would definitely our first stop if go back to Gulf Shore, Al.

I went here with my family tonight, and we loved every second of it. From the moment we called to make a reservation to the moment we stepped out the door after we ate, we were treated in the friendliest manner and like guests of honor. The decor was really nice too. We loved all of the food we had (sushi, salmon teriyaki, phad tai) and the wine. I definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area, I would definitely go back.

I went there for a thai meal and had the tom yum soup, thai coconut soup and the green curry. I can not say how the rest of the menu is, but the meal i had, didn't have anything to do with thai food. It did not taste bad, but the fundamental ingredients of thai food were not present. On top of this it was lacking taste in general, had no salt and i ordered thai hot and bearly got at tingle. Gets 2 stars because of staff and the use of the fresh veggies. I will not go back.

I am a Gulf Shores local and my family and I frequently order takeout from Aji Sai and we LOVE it. It is a hidden gem. There are few options for Chinese food in the area and at first we were hesitant to even try a new Chinese restaurant because in our past all others have been buffet-style and greasy but Aji Sai was a pleasant surprise. We have ordered a number of times (5-10) in the past 6 months and never been disappointed. The Food- We have ordered the kung pao beef, gyoza, cashew shrimp, and sesame chicken. Everything we have ordered has been seasoned and cooked correctly. It is never overly greasy or bland. There is no mystery meat at Aji Sai. Everything that we have had has been made with quality meat, shrimp, and vegetables. About the service- The employees have all been friendly both on the phone and in the restaurant. The takeout is always warm and fresh within 15-20 minutes from calling. Oftentimes they will even throw in free appetizers with larger orders! All we have to say is thank you, Aji Sai for being in Gulf Shores! Aji Sai has been a refreshing surprise and we hope that all will catch on to this new gem!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
